Summary: The experimental Global
Tropics Benefits / Hazards Assessment, issued by the Climate Prediction Center
(CPC), provides an outlook for the upcoming 1 to 2
week time period for areas expecting extensive and persistent enhanced /
suppressed rainfall and regions where conditions are especially favorable /
unfavorable for tropical cyclogenesis. The data are arranged as six
shapefiles – regions expected to have enhanced rainfall, suppressed rainfall,
and favorable conditions for tropical cyclogenesis for both week 1 and week 2.
It is necessary for the user to view the following web page for interpretation
of the shapefiles -- http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/ghazards/ghaz.shtml.
The
data relates an assessment of climate and weather conditions and is a synthesis
of information and expert analysis from a number of CPC assessment activities as
well as other operational and routine monitoring products. The physical basis
for the outlooks includes the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle, the
Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), other coherent subseasonal tropical variability
and interactions with the extratropical circulation. The product is generated
with input from other NOAA centers including the Earth System Research
Laboratory (ESRL), the National Hurricane Center (NHC), and select National
Weather Service Weather Forecast Offices among other collaborators.
