• Monthly
    • The blended sea surface salinity (SSS) analysis (BASS), called the NOAA BASS, is a near global (60°S to 60°N) gridded (1° by 1°) monthly and pentad SSS products. The monthly product is updated every month with one month latency. Before June 2015, the input data sets for BASS product are in situ SSS measurements aggregated and quality controlled by NOAA/NCEI, and passive microwave (PMW) retrievals from both the NASA Aquarius/SAC-D and the European Space Agency's (ESA) Soil Moisture-Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellites. Since June 2015, the input data set of NASA Aquarius has been replaced by NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP). The data files can be downloaded from our ftp site http://ftp.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/precip/BASS/monthly.

  • Pentad
    • The blended sea surface salinity (SSS) analysis (BASS), called the NOAA BASS, is a near global (60°S to 60°N) gridded (1° by 1°) monthly and pentad SSS products. The pentad product is updated every day with two days latency. Here, the pentad is defined as the 5-day running mean. The input data sets for BASS pentad product are in situ SSS measurements aggregated and quality controlled by NOAA/NCEI, and passive microwave (PMW) retrievals from both the European Space Agency's (ESA) Soil Moisture-Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellites and NASA soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP). Currently, the pentad BASS SSS is available since January 1 2017. The data files can be downloaded from our ftp site http://ftp.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/precip/BASS/pentad.
